District transportation staff told trustees the district needs a new bus to add a special-needs route; the vehicle includes a liftgate and three-point seat belts. Staff recommended purchase from Longhorn Bus Sales using BuyBoard contract 72223 and the FY25-26 budget.
Staff said the vehicle is a mid-size bus and can be delivered within a couple of weeks after outfitting with district radio and equipment. The purchase includes adding a driver and a monitor for the route. Trustees asked about backup buses and the ongoing three-year replacement cycle; staff said the district maintains older buses as short-term backups and replaces about three buses per year as part of a rolling plan.
Trustees approved the purchase; the motion passed 7-0. Staff noted forthcoming legislative changes regarding seat-belt requirements may require retrofitting older buses.
