Pearland ISD board adopts five-year House Bill 3 goals for literacy, math and college readiness

The Pearland Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved House Bill 3'required five-year goals for early childhood literacy, third-grade reading and math proficiency and college, career and military readiness on Aug. 12.
Superintendent Dr. Berger told the board that the district's strategic plan already includes the areas required by the state and that the HB 3 goals must also be set at the district level and by campus. "All of these items are encaptured in our strategic plan and strategic scorecard," Dr. Berger said.
Trustee Murphy moved to adopt the HB 3 board goals for 2025, Trustee Stuckey seconded, and the board voted 5-0 to approve the measures. The superintendent noted the targets are five-year goals and that district staff will produce campus-level breakdowns as required by law.
No amendments were made during the open meeting. Staff said the district will report progress on these measures through the strategic scorecard dashboard approved at the same meeting.
