The Northeast Independent School District Board of Trustees on Aug. 12 approved a lease agreement with Morgan’s Wonderland that will allow the nonprofit to build and manage sports, parking and fitness facilities on district-owned land near Heroes Stadium, the board voted 6–1.
The lease, presented to trustees by Morgan’s representatives, would let Morgan’s construct improvements the group said it will pay for, including expanded parking, shaded areas and restrooms, relocated track-and-field pits, a climate-controlled sports gym with expanded pickleball courts and a 25,000-square-foot inclusive fitness center. Gordon Hartman, founder of Morgan’s, said many of the improvements “would not be possible if it was not for the Northeast Independent School District.”
