Red Oak ISD presents assessment results, accountability ratings and CCMR gains to trustees

Megan Korns, an accountability presenter for the district, reviewed spring assessment results and the state accountability framework for trustees, explaining how STAR, STAR-Alt, TELPAS and end-of-course measures feed the Texas Education Agency's A'through'F accountability domains.

Korns said the district set internal goals of 60% "meets" and 30% "masters" on STAR to align with improved ratings and noted that several grades approached those goals, with fifth grade closest to the target in reading. She described how academic growth and relative performance are calculated and said academic growth is measured only in reading and math.

Korns highlighted that district domain scores were 73/100 for student achievement, 75/100 for school progress and 80/100 for closing the gaps, producing an overall district score of 77/100. She said Red Oak High School accounts for the largest share of the district rating because it is the largest campus by enrollment.

Brett (district leader) and Mr. Cordero (district staff) described the district's CCMR efforts (college, career and military readiness), including a steering committee that meets biweekly, senior reviews for individualized CCMR plans, dual-credit Hawk Scholars progress and partnerships for SAT/TSIA2 preparation. Mr. Cordero said the high school achieved an 86% CCMR met rate last year and the district is targeting at least 90% this year.

Board members asked about testing cohorts, STAR scoring differences for honors students and whether interim benchmark data will be available; staff cautioned that pending state legislation could restrict local benchmarking. Staff described curriculum supports (Carnegie math training, Region 10 coaching, walkthrough calibrations) and targeted campus support plans.
