Mesquite ISD names Jose Peterson Torres as principal of Lawrence Elementary

The Mesquite ISD Board of Trustees approved a term contract appointing Jose Peterson Torres as principal of Lawrence Elementary School.
Superintendent Dr. Rivera introduced Torres to the board, noting his decade of experience in Mesquite ISD, prior roles as assistant principal at Woolly Middle and Berry Middle schools, and classroom experience as a bilingual elementary teacher in Dallas ISD. Torres holds a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy studies from the University of Texas at Arlington and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Inter American University of Puerto Rico.
Torres spoke to trustees and attendees, saying Mesquite “is not just a workplace” but “the very first place that I called home” after his family moved from Puerto Rico. He described a family history of service in the district—his wife and children work or have attended local schools—and said his mission is “to ensure that every student at Lawrence has that same opportunity [to] succeed and flourish.”
Trustee M. Seward moved to approve the personnel action; Trustee H. Hornsby seconded. The board approved the appointment by voice vote.
