Mesquite ISD approves reimbursement resolution for school-bus purchases pending bond election

The Mesquite Independent School District Board of Trustees on March 10 approved a reimbursement resolution that declares the district’s expectation to repay general-fund expenditures for school-bus purchases with future tax-exempt bond proceeds if a May bond election passes.
District staff explained the reimbursement resolution provides flexibility: the district intends to pay for school buses from available funds but, if voters approve the bond in May, those expenditures could be financed with tax-exempt bond proceeds and the general fund reimbursed. Staff noted the resolution does not obligate the district to issue bonds.
Trustee Bingham moved the resolution and Trustee Cabell seconded; the board approved the measure unanimously, 7-0. Presenters said the resolution simply preserves the option to use bond proceeds for the purchases in the event of voter approval; no specific dollar amounts for the buses or repayment schedule were presented during the meeting.
