Mesquite ISD introduces new principals, coordinators and assistant principals hired during summer

The Mesquite Independent School District presented a slate of summer administrative hires to trustees on July 14, introducing two principals and a series of coordinators and assistant principals the district said were already on the job.
Dr. Rivera, the superintendent, asked Deputy Superintendent Dr. Jean Fields to introduce Melissa Torrance, who was presented as the principal for AC New Middle School. Dr. Torrance told the board she recently defended her dissertation and said, "I am incredibly excited to be a part of this district, and I am ready to serve and hit the ground running, Wednesday." The personnel item approving her appointment was part of the administrative term-contract action the board approved earlier in the meeting.
Dr. Fields also introduced Deidra Lester as the new principal at Smith Elementary School. Lester told trustees she accepted the position with “deep gratitude and heartfelt humility” and recognized mentors and family who supported her path to school leadership.
Sabrina Smith, the district’s chief communications officer, introduced a round of coordinators and assistant principals the administration said were hired under summer hiring privileges so campuses could be staffed quickly. Introductions included Dennis Sadler (coordinator for administrative services), Amanda Korner (CTE coordinator), Lindsay Martin (coordinator for deaf education) and assistant principals Asia Jones, Christian Jackson, Rebecca Leek, Crystal Easley, Britney Taylor, Jennifer Easterling, Reginald Jeans and Christie Coronado. Dr. Rivera told the board the new hires were already working that morning and thanked trustees for trusting the administration to complete summer hires expeditiously.
The board approved the administrative term contracts earlier in the meeting on a motion by Mister Bingham, seconded by Miss Hornsby, which district staff said covered principal appointments and other administrative term contracts. No individual compensation figures or contract lengths were presented in the meeting record.
Trustees and staff framed the hires as part of preparing campuses for the upcoming school year; the district did not present additional personnel budgets during the meeting.
