District reports intruder-detection audits nearly complete; vulnerability assessments planned

Mesquite ISD safety staff told the board the district has completed 44 of 52 intruder-detection audits required by the Texas Education Agency and plans district vulnerability assessments next school year.
Mr. Morris, the district safety staff lead reporting on intruder-detection work, told the board April 14 that Mesquite ISD has completed 44 of 52 TEA intruder-detection audits and expects to finish audits at all campuses by the end of the school year.
Morris said the district has a safety and security committee meeting scheduled for the following week to discuss vulnerability assessments and other items. He told trustees the district expects to begin district vulnerability assessments next school year and will be prepared to participate if the district opts in.
"We have had 44 of the 52 audits completed, so we have 8 remaining the rest of the school year," Morris said. He added that the district’s people will be prepared for the vulnerability assessments if the district chooses to undertake them.
No formal action or vote was required; the item was provided as an informational update to trustees.
