Public commenter urges Godley ISD to publish full board book; trustees decline to add agenda item

During the public-participation portion of the Godley ISD board meeting, a resident who identified herself as Miss Olsen urged trustees to publish a detailed board book and a check register so the public can see line-item budgeting.
Olsen said, “This is my money that you're spending, so I'd like to know how you spend it,” and pointed to other districts’ practices as examples. She also requested the district publish the board book online, excluding executive-session items, and raised concerns about transparency for advisory committees.
After public comment, a trustee moved to add an agenda item for the next meeting to “consider and have possible action to publish our board book along with the new board Q and A worksheet with our agendas for the public for transparency.” The motion failed for lack of a second.
Trustees did not adopt a requirement to publish board books at the meeting. The public commenter noted the board book is not currently published and asked the district to provide a detailed budget line items and a check register. Trustees did agree to table the meeting minutes portion of the consent agenda to clarify recorded votes on a prior policy item.
