Academy reports strong start to year; adds middle‑school sports, robotics growth and attendance focus

"We had close to 40 students come out yesterday, which shows a very big interest in middle school," Tapp said.
Director of student services Mr. White said attendance is a board priority, noting two attendance‑team meetings already and plans to review initial data at the next meeting to guide proactive interventions. Director of educational services Mr. Schatz said a math consultant from Solution Tree conducted walkthroughs and that dual‑enrollment courses begin Thursday; he thanked a community donor for two large tubs of high‑school novels.
Director of special education Miss Fosse reported the second year of the co‑teaching pushing model at the middle and high school is proceeding well and praised teacher collaboration. Director of facilities Mr. Dunker said facilities operations had the smoothest start in recent memory, reported a final city roof inspection and said only a few repairs remain within the project scope. He also described speaker system fine‑tuning and that technicians were on site.
The robotics and STEAM director reported recruitment for K–12 robotics teams, outreach plans, a grant available for FTC teams, and that the academy registered a LEGO team—the first in the Antelope Valley in some time. "We're proud to say that we've registered a Lego team and we are the first school team to register in the Antelope Valley probably in a while," the director said.
Several board members offered congratulations on the school start and acknowledged staff and volunteers for visible, positive interactions with students at drop‑off and events. No board action was taken on these informational reports.
