The Silver Consolidated Schools Board approved transportation contracts for the 2025-26 school year on May 19, awarding continued service to Montoya Transportation, Cliff Bus Lines, Mangus Bus Lines and Shelley Farms.
Transportation staff told the board that during the prior year the district reduced the per-mile reimbursement rate to contractors because transportation allocations were limited; contractors continued service despite the cut. With improved allocations for 2025-26, staff proposed restoring the mileage rate to the levels that were in effect in the 2023-24 school year. The board approved the contracts and the restored mileage rates by voice vote.
Financial details of the contracts (per-mile rates and total contract amounts) were presented in the board packet; transportation staff said the increased allocation made the restoration possible and that contracts include the usual requirements for driver qualifications, insurance and routing documentation.
Approval of the contracts cleared procurement for routing and scheduling ahead of the next school year, and staff said they will monitor fuel and operational costs and report any needed adjustments to the board.
