Students honored at board meeting: TSA qualifies for nationals; FFA and FCCLA students recognized

Superintendent William Hawkins introduced the Kiwanis Student of the Month for Cliff: senior Riley Gonzalez, nominated for leadership in athletics and academics. "Riley consistently demonstrates leadership, not only as an athlete, but as a mentor and motivator for younger students," Hawkins read from staff recommendations.
Cliff's FFA teacher Stacy Swope reported a strong season: an ag mechanics team of middle-school students finished first at state invitationals, a food science team placed eighth at state, and other teams (forestry, horse, livestock, pasture and range, horticulture, wildlife) posted competitive results. Swope highlighted heavy student participation and weekend practices from January through April.
Technology Student Association president Jasper Alsup told the board Cliff's TSA team finished second in the state Solar Sprint competition and qualified for nationals in Nashville. The team asked the board and community for fundraising support for travel, lodging and meals for the national competition.
Chelsea (representing FCCLA) reported that Cliff senior Ryan Tedford earned an FCCLA gold award with a top score of 95.3 and will compete at the national FCCLA conference in July. The project, "Make It to Market," pairs general-education students with students with exceptionalities to create and sell goods at the Gila Valley farmers market.
Athletics updates were delivered by junior class president Brennan Schock and other students who recapped successful seasons across basketball, track, golf and other sports, with several athletes advancing to state meets or earning all-state honors.
No board action was taken; these agenda items were informational and meant to publicly acknowledge student accomplishments and to flag the TSA request for fundraising support.
