Board approves architect selection for new Cliff campus; Decker named architect of choice in consent agenda

The Silver Consolidated Schools Board of Education approved a consent agenda that included naming Decker LTV as the architect of choice for the new Cliff campus design.

Superintendent William Hawkins summarized the RFP and selection process earlier in the meeting, saying eight firms responded and the selection committee narrowed the field to three finalists: ASA, Decker and V Hill (Vigil and Associates). Hawkins said the committee evaluated firms on design competence, capacity, past record, proximity to the district and public-school facilities compliance experience.

Hawkins described the finalists: ASA for 50 years of work in Cliff and experience with rural pre-K'12 facilities; Decker for learning-centered spaces and experience with Silver City Recreation Center projects; and V Hill for stakeholder engagement, award-winning design and familiarity with the Cliff site. The superintendent said the finalists participated in face-to-face interviews.

On the consent agenda, Director of Finance Michelle McCain presented the awards and asked the board to approve Decker LTV as the architect of choice. The consent agenda passed after a motion by Mister Khan and a second by Missus Clement; the board voice vote was recorded as unanimous.

Action recorded: the board approved the consent agenda, which included awarding Decker LTV as the architect of choice for the Cliff campus. Contract negotiations will begin following board approval, Hawkins said, and the selected firm will lead community engagement, design development and work with the Public School Capital Outlay process.

The superintendent emphasized the scale of the procurement process and thanked staff members who supported the RFP and selection work.
