Board approves first reading of revised child‑abuse reporting policy after legal changes shorten reporting window

The Cypress‑Fairbanks ISD board on Sept. 8 approved on first reading changes to district policy FFG (student welfare, child abuse and neglect) to reflect recent state law changes that shorten the required reporting timeframe to Child Protective Services.

District trustees and staff said the policy committee reviewed revisions prompted by three new state laws and that the most notable change shortens the reporting window to CPS from 48 hours to 24 hours. Trustee Todd, summarizing the policy committee’s work, said the administration also presented a communication plan to ensure staff are made aware of the change.

The district’s administration said it will notify staff of the legal change and implement the communication plan agreed upon by the policy committee.
