When asked how many East Dundee businesses were customers of his business, Guma said “just a guess off the top of my head, 8,” and later noted his company serves roughly 700 locations across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. Trustees asked whether he would recuse himself on votes that could directly benefit his customers; Guma said he would consult the village attorney and handle recusal decisions on a case-by-case basis.
Trustees expressed general support for adding Guma’s private-sector experience to board discussions while noting that recusal and conflict-of-interest determinations will be made as issues arise. Trustees recorded their approval by roll call, and the village announced Guma’s swearing-in is scheduled for June 2.
No legal determination or binding recusal plan was produced at the meeting; trustees said future potential conflicts would be discussed with legal counsel as necessary.
