According to staff, roughly $43,000 of the pay request covers insulation, hangers and four sticks of ductile iron pipe that had to be replaced on the bridge pipe portion of the work. The city extended the existing general contractor’s term for the bridge repairs rather than procure a separate contractor; staff said the decision allowed quicker progress and tied the additional bridge work to the digester contract after EPA consultation.
Contractors are coordinating the work around equipment availability; staff said a lift would not be available until early next week and that the contractor intended to begin preparatory work with a boom and man cage. The council was told that temporary measures were in place to haul sewage from the lift station to the plant while repairs proceed.
Council members asked about timing and the permit process; staff reported they had received the necessary permit late last week and anticipated moving quickly. The pay request was approved on the roll call.
