County staff told commissioners Aug. 12 that the county’s gas aggregation contract with Constellation Energy ended in June and that replacement-price quotes from other suppliers are currently higher than the incumbent rate, so staff are continuing to obtain quotes and will arrange a briefing with the county’s broker.
Why it matters: Gas aggregation pools municipal and residential demand to seek lower supplier rates. When a contract ends, the county may either accept higher market prices, lock a new term, or leave consumers on standard-choice supplier rates.
Staff said they issued a request for proposals earlier this year and that current quotes from AEP Ohio and Nordic are considerably higher than the county’s prior Constellation pricing. County staff emphasized residents will continue receiving uninterrupted natural-gas service from their existing supplier; the county is seeking a favorable rate to lock for one to three years. The administrator said he will coordinate a meeting with the county broker and a representative (Lauder Young) to present more detailed pricing and options for board consideration in the coming weeks.
Staff also reminded commissioners that the county’s electrical aggregation contract runs through 2026 and will require a similar procurement process when that contract is renewed.
Ending: Staff will work with the aggregation broker to present competitive options and return with a supplier briefing and recommendation to the board.
