Sophia Schall, the district's student representative, told the Caitlin Board of Education that Caitlin High School has introduced several new policies for the start of the year, including a 5-Star program to award points for student involvement, scanning student IDs for hallway passes and a rule requiring students who arrive late with coffee or energy drinks to discard them.
"[The changes include] the 5 star program, which awards points for student involvement, scanning student IDs for all hallway passes, and then a new rule requiring students to discard coffee or energy drinks if they arrive late to school with them," Schall said. She added that student reactions have been mixed but that the student body is adjusting to the new expectations.
Schall also reported on athletics and school events: fall teams are in practice, the varsity volleyball team had a home match, and the school's "Nights Under the Lights" community event featured an athlete parade and other activities that helped start the season. The policy items Schall described were presented as school-level operational changes; the transcript does not show a board vote or districtwide policy change.
Board discussion following Schall's report did not record action items related to the specific high school policies. The board took no formal vote on these items during the meeting; they were presented for information as part of the student representative's report.
