Itasca planning staff OK zoning certificate for MAI Systems at 200 Pierce Road

Community development staff told the Village Board on Aug. 19 that a zoning certificate has been filed for MAI Systems Inc. at 200 Pierce Road in the Regional Office Center District.
Staff described the business activity as manufacturing a range of lens-cutting machines for eyeglass and sunglass lenses, noting customers that include Walmart, Oakley and Luxottica. The firm will occupy approximately 63,600 square feet, employ 70 people and provide 84 dedicated parking spaces on site.
Staff said the proposed use is permitted in the zoning district under Itasca zoning code sections 11.03.1.a (executive, administrative, personal and professional offices), 11.03.1.e (uses with a principal function of education, research, design and technical training and experimental product development) and 10.04.6 (accessory storage). The matter was placed on first reading in the community development committee and no public objections were recorded in the meeting discussion.
No formal board vote on the zoning certificate took place; the item was listed as an update and will follow the usual committee review and permitting process.
