Itasca approves engineering evaluations and design services for pump station, storage tank and wastewater blower projects

The Itasca Village Board on Aug. 5 accepted three task orders with Robinson Engineering for municipal infrastructure work:
- Industrial Drive pump station upgrades — evaluation study (task order 25‑R0438), estimated cost $14,940. The study will evaluate the pumping station, aging piping and controls and consider adding redundancy and variable frequency drives (VFDs) to improve low‑flow operation and reliability.
- Rolling Road water storage tank repairs — design engineering services (task order 25‑R0440), estimated cost $36,240. The work will define the coating system and application method to stop seepage through the concrete tank and restore structural integrity.
- Waste activated sludge blower replacement — design engineering services (task order 25‑R0441), estimated cost $46,923. Staff said existing blowers are oversized for current operating volumes; replacing them and right‑sizing the system is expected to cost about $250,000 in capital and save roughly $48,000 per year on energy, yielding an estimated six‑year payback. The village plans to apply for a possible capital credit or reimbursement through Cascade (energy/incentive program coordinated with Commonwealth Edison). These projects are included in the village capital improvement plan (WTR‑22‑001 and WW‑26‑005 noted in the record).

"It's difficult to operate without the proper VFDs stepping down the motor... our pumps don't go low enough to support just a small amount of water consumption during the evening hours," staff said, explaining the evaluation is to optimize controls, redundancy and operations.
Board action: Trustees moved and seconded acceptance of each task order; roll calls were recorded and the contracts were accepted as listed.
