The Story County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Sept. 9 to proclaim September 2025 as National Voter Registration Month and Sept. 16, 2025, as National Voter Registration Day.
The proclamation noted that registering to vote “empowers eligible citizens” and urged eligible residents — including students and people who have moved within the county — to confirm or update their registration. Auditor Martin said the county and local groups will run drives next week and that voter registration forms are available on the county website and through the auditor’s office.
County officials said Iowa offers online voter registration and election-day registration. The proclamation also referenced the Nov. 4, 2025, city and school elections and encouraged media and civic organizations to support a nonpartisan registration awareness campaign.
Auditor Martin asked for a photo with representatives of the League of Women Voters of Ames-Story County after the vote and described planned registration drives at Wheatsfield Co-op, Ames Public Library and Hy-Vee Lincoln Way on Sept. 16. The board took a roll-call vote approving the proclamation.
