Council accepts $2,500 CenterPoint Energy grant for fire department personal flotation devices

The Farmington City Council voted Aug. 18 to accept a $2,500 grant from CenterPoint Energy's Community Safety Grant Program to purchase personal flotation devices (PFDs) for the Fire Department. Chief Price presented the grant and requested council adoption of Resolution 2025‑058.
Chief Price said the grant will offset replacement costs for PFDs used in ice and water rescue and training; he noted lifesaving equipment typically has a limited service life under NFPA standards. Price told the council that the department applied for the grant after staff discovered the program, and that CenterPoint awarded $2,500 for Farmington’s project.
Price said CenterPoint’s community safety program has funded safety projects across its Minnesota service area and that the company presented a check and certificate to the department on Aug. 8. He described the program as an every‑other‑year opportunity and said the grant will directly support PFD replacement.
Council member Jake thanked Price and staff for pursuing the grant and Council member Steve and others expressed appreciation for leveraging outside funding to keep first responders safe. The resolution to accept the grant was moved by Jake, seconded by Steve, and approved on a unanimous roll call.
The resolution directs administration to accept the award and proceed with the purchase of PFDs for the Farmington Fire Department.
