Itasca police say drone and house-to-house search located missing 5-year-old; National Night Out scheduled Aug. 5

Scott, a department representative speaking during department-head reports, said officers used a drone as part of the response to a missing 5-year-old last week and ultimately located the child at a residence after a house-to-house grid search. "We deployed our drone," Scott said. Officers found the child after searching residences; the child had gone to a nearby home and was inside when located.
Scott emphasized the potential dangers in the area where the child wandered—there was nearby water and active construction—but said officers were able to locate the child without incident. He also confirmed that one of the search tactics included a house-to-house grid search rather than the dog locating the child.
Scott also reminded the board that the village's National Night Out event is scheduled for Aug. 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. on the village campus grounds. The department asked trustees to attend before or after the regular board meeting that evening.
No formal action or policy change resulted from the report, which was presented for the board's information.
