The Village of Itasca on July 1 accepted the low responsive bid of $806,895 from John Neary Construction for the Orchard Street water-main replacement, a project that will replace roughly 880 feet of 6-inch main and upsize it to serve an adjacent development.
Capital Infrastructure Committee reported four bids were received at a June 23 public bid opening. The low bid of $806,895 was approximately 17% higher than the village engineer's estimate of $678,795 and about $60,000 below the next responsive bidder. Staff recommended moving forward because the project timing is tied to the Holiday property development currently under construction.
A staff representative explained that recent underground work has produced higher bids across the region because contractors are busy and materials and patching costs have increased; comparable projects showed price increases of about 25% since earlier bids. Trustees asked about how long bidders hold prices; staff said typical bid hold periods run 45 to 90 days, and the village sets the terms when advertising.
Trustees approved a motion to accept the low bid by roll call. The contract will proceed with John Neary Construction pending standard contract award and permitting.
