Nathan, the curator, told the subcommittee on Aug. 28 that the Capitol Gallery schedule is set out through 2030 and mixes curated exhibitions, traveling shows and anniversary-focused displays.
He said the current traveling exhibit (Rock Pile) will remain through mid-January, after which the gallery will be prepared for the 2026 Governor’s Capital Art Exhibition (GCAE) with a reception planned for mid-February. Nathan said the juror for the 2026 GCAE will be Kate Lavin, curator at the Coors Western Art Exhibit in Denver.
Following the 2026 GCAE, Nathan said the gallery will host an exhibit in collaboration with the Jim Gatchel Memorial Museum focused on civic responsibility and local history; a traveling ‘Hollywood in Wyoming’ show (Fort Casper Museum) exploring movies filmed in the state; an archaeology-focused exhibit (in collaboration with the State Historic Preservation Office and state archaeologist) tied to Archaeology Awareness Month; and a statewide county-focused exhibit timed to the 130th anniversary of the Gallagher survey in October 2028. He also proposed an exhibit for the 160th anniversary of Wyoming Territory in 2029 and an equality-themed exhibit tied to the 160th anniversary of passage of women’s suffrage in Wyoming Territory in late 2029.
Nathan asked for committee support in scheduling rotation and coordinating loans and said he would send formal calls for submissions and exhibition details as they are finalized. No formal action was taken at the meeting.
