The town council approved a contract on a motion to move municipal insurance to the Georgia Interlocal Risk Management Agency, the council said, after hearing that the new plan would keep existing coverages while cutting the town’s premium roughly in half.
Council members introduced the contract as the first item of new business and debated details of listed insureds and rental liability before voting to approve the contract. A staff member said the new insurer was procured through the Georgia Municipal Association network and that deductibles and coverage limits would remain the same.
Town staff told the council the only outstanding issue was that a renter who uses a town facility had not been listed as an insured on the prior policy. “We’re not losing any coverage on anything. All of our coverage is staying the same,” a staff member said during the discussion. Staff said they would add the renter to the new policy so that his activities inside the structure are covered.
The council’s motion to approve the contract passed after a second and voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the meeting minutes. No ordinance or statutory citation was read into the record during the vote.
