Dalton City Council members on Monday, Aug. 18 viewed a finished promotional segment produced by How To Media that features the Dalton Convention Center, a Convention and Visitors Bureau representative told the council.
The video, part of How To Media’s "World’s Greatest" series, has already aired and, according to the presenter, reached about 70,000,000 potential households. The segment highlights the center’s location, facilities and services and will be posted on the city’s and the convention center’s websites, the presenter said.
The piece traces the center’s history to a local authority created in 1988 and the opening of the 143,000-square-foot convention center in 1991. The presenter described the center as serving a wide range of events — from small business meetings to concerts and trade shows — and said the in-house food-and-beverage and AV teams support everything from concessions to plated meals. The presenter also noted the center’s staff collectively has more than 200 years of experience in hospitality.
"Next year, we've got 3 to 4 weekends open," the presenter said when a council member asked about future availability, and the presentation noted repeat clients sometimes reserve dates years in advance.
Mayor and council members were shown the video and invited to share it through city and county channels. The council did not take formal action related to the video at the meeting.
The presentation did not include cost or revenue figures for the convention center; those were not specified at the meeting.
