The Carroll County Board of License Commissioners approved an upgrade for Akira Ramen in Westminster, allowing the restaurant to add liquor to its existing beer-and-wine license so it may sell distilled beverages such as soju and certain bottled sparkling malt beverages.
Owner Fangtao Ren told the board his establishment primarily intends to sell premixed or bottled distilled beverages — examples cited included soju and a sparkling malt beverage — that accompany the ramen menu. He said the restaurant will not operate a full-service bar, has staff trained in alcohol service, and will have at least one certified server on-site during hours of operation.
Board members reviewed the proposed menu and the applicant confirmed two employees hold authorized server certification and that he is present most days. Commissioners noted the proposed menu items include distilled beverages which fall under a liquor license; they moved to approve the upgrade to a Class B beer, wine and liquor seven-day license.
The board approved the upgrade by voice vote and noted a prorated $500 licensing fee for the remainder of the licensing period, reflecting the May-to-July portion of the year.
Licensee and staff were reminded to maintain server-certification records and follow-underage-compliance procedures.
