Deerfield approves $75,000 contribution for D113 storm‑sewer replacement beneath high‑school parking lot

The Board of Trustees on June 2 approved a resolution authorizing an intergovernmental agreement with School District 113 to replace an aging storm sewer that runs beneath Deerfield High School’s parking lot.

Bob, public works staff, told the board the work involves replacing a 64‑inch diameter storm pipe along an approximately 800‑foot run that crosses village easements and school property. The school district plans to reconstruct the parking lot and replace the pipe as part of that project. Village staff said Deerfield’s share of the pipe replacement is $75,000; the amount had been budgeted in prior capital improvement programs but is not budgeted in the 2025 operating budget.

“...our council has prepared an agreement, to go back and forth between us and School District 113. D113’s already approved their portion of it, and we’re looking for approval from the village board tonight and that goes along with the $75,000 expenditure,” Bob said. Staff recommended approval to take advantage of the district’s construction schedule, noting joint timing is more cost‑efficient than separate projects.

Trustees approved the resolution by roll call. Roll call votes recorded yes from trustees Berg, Greenberg, Jacoby and Benton. Staff said if the village did not join the district this year, the village would return next year to address the same pipe replacement need and associated costs.
