Deerfield renews intergovernmental agreement with Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group

The Village of Deerfield Board of Trustees voted June 2 to approve intergovernmental agreements (IGAs) with Lake County municipalities and the Illinois State Police to govern contributions to the Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group.
A police department representative told the board the group coordinates multi‑jurisdictional law enforcement efforts against illegal drug trafficking, street gang activity, weapons violations and related criminal activity across Lake County. “The Village of Deerfield and Deerfield Police Department has been [a] contributing member … since approximately 1978,” the police representative said, and noted that Deerfield typically assigns a full‑time officer to the unit for two to three years.
Trustees asked how participation benefits the home department; the police representative said officers return with investigative skills, under‑cover experience and county‑wide contacts that enhance local policing. After brief questions the board approved the resolution by roll call. Trustees Jacoby, Benton, Berg and Greenberg voted yes; the resolution was approved.
