Lighthouse 2 residents urge city for advance notice and damage repair amid Western Avenue construction

Staunton — Marlon Velasco, vice president of the Lighthouse 2 Homeowners Association, told the council the community has experienced repeated construction-related impacts from Western Avenue projects, including blocked entrances, stored construction signs and materials on private property, damaged landscaping and loss of parking.
Velasco said those issues have persisted since he moved to Lighthouse 2 in 2023 and requested clarification about how many additional public improvements remain, what the timeline is and whether KB Home contractors would be instructed not to use private community property for storage or staging. “Can you please clarify how many additional public improvement projects will be conducted and the timeline of these projects?” Velasco asked, and he requested advanced communication to the HOA so residents can plan for single-entry access and other disruptions.
A council member told Velasco that staff member Cesar would coordinate directly with the HOA and provide a contact card. Another council member said they frequently visited Western Avenue and that the street would be returned to good condition once the projects conclude.
The comments were submitted during oral communications; the council did not take formal action on the item at the meeting but staff committed to coordinate with the HOA and address property damage and communication gaps.
