Committee recommends disc-golf basket renovation at Yellow Banks; motion passed

Committee members reviewed cost estimates to refurbish or replace disc-golf baskets at Yellow Banks Park and debated access improvements related to pipelines that cross the park.

Staff and a contractor contact, Pete from Australia Disc Golf, presented two options: refurbish existing baskets (sandblasting, powder coating, and new chains) or purchase new baskets. Staff said the existing baskets, purchased in 2011, are weathered but not beyond repair. The packet included cost estimates for sandblasting and chain replacement and a separate, larger estimate to construct berms and temporary wood mats to allow heavy equipment to cross pipeline crossings for broader park maintenance.

Committee members asked technical questions about pipeline depths, crossover points and the need for engineered fill over pipelines to permit heavy equipment access. Staff said most access locations would require wood mats and fill work; costs for pipeline-related access work were presented separately in the packet.

After discussion, a committee member moved to recommend moving forward with the proposed disc-golf-course improvements as presented. The motion was seconded and passed by voice vote.
