Kosciusko County’s highway department reported three finance items to the county commissioners and received approval for each.
Highway department staff Troy said the county is appropriating funds in 2025 for two Community Crossing matching grants that originated in 2024: $337,519 for Bridge 320 and $19,595 for roadwork. Troy said no additional county funds are being requested; the amounts are already set aside in the general fund and simply need appropriation into the 2025 budget. Commissioners approved the appropriation after a motion by Commissioner Kim and a second by Commissioner Kathy.
Troy also requested a $20,000 transfer from MBH building repair to MBH contractual services to cover an unforeseen invoice; commissioners approved the transfer on a motion by Commissioner Joe with a second by Commissioner Rachel.
Finally, Troy asked for permission to apply for the annual 100%‑reimbursable railroad‑crossing grant in the amount of $39,000. Troy said the county typically receives the grant when it applies and that although the grant is reimbursable, the county generally has the money available before spending. Commissioners authorized the application after a motion by Commissioner Kathy and a second by Commissioner Rachel.
Discussion versus decision: Each of the three items was presented as a formal request and approved by the commissioners. Staff noted the Community Crossing grants originate from 2024 and that the railroad crossing grant is routinely pursued.
Ending: Commissioners thanked Troy and moved on to other agenda items after the approvals.
