Committee receives updates on YellowBanks launch, Prohaska Park, memorial care and park connections

Staff provided brief updates on several park and facility items.

YellowBanks launch: Staff said contractor scheduling delays pushed the start date into August; the contract calls for October completion, but installation of the dock this year will depend on timing so the dock is not placed and immediately removed for winter. "They have an October completion," staff said. Whether the dock will be usable this year depends on contractor schedule and weather.

Prohaska Park maintenance: Parks staff reported trail brushing, shoreline access clearing and routine mowing. Staff said anglers reported plentiful perch and occasional bullhead catches after trails were opened for access.

Kennedy Park memorial responsibility: Staff confirmed the village holds designated funds for future maintenance and handles routine weekly and seasonal upkeep; $2,000 remains in a dedicated account for larger repairs. Staff noted volunteers had weeded earlier in the season but that the village performs annual maintenance tasks and snow‑clearing for remembrance events.

Concept plat / Rockwood Park connection: Staff described a proposed subdivision dedication that would provide a pedestrian easement and an 8‑foot trail/boardwalk across low wetlands to connect a new subdivision to Robinwood (Rockwood) Park. Parkland dedication fees from the subdivision would be available to cover design and construction; staff said cost estimates will be developed for CIP planning.

Veterans banners: The committee heard that a vendor partnership will allow up to 48 veteran banners along Schofield Avenue after reconstruction; banners will be displayed Memorial Day through Veterans Day next year and the village will include a brochure and online form for submissions.

Ending: Staff said they will return with cost estimates for the pedestrian connection and timing updates for YellowBanks and other projects.
