Murrysville council appoints zoning officer, approves Haymaker Run easement and annual public‑works contracts

Murrysville — At its April 15 meeting, the Municipality of Murrysville Council approved three key items: the appointment of Chevy Nave as a municipal zoning officer, an ordinance granting an easement for the Haymaker Run interceptor rehabilitation project, and the annual awards of contracts for road materials and line painting for the June 1, 2025–May 31, 2026 contract year.

The appointments and contracts were taken as separate motions and approved by voice vote during the council’s regular meeting. The council also approved the consent calendar — including the April 2 minutes, accounts payable and cash investments and transfers — earlier in the session.

Appointing an in‑house zoning officer: The council voted to name Chevy Nave an official zoning officer in addition to her current role as the municipality’s code and property‑maintenance officer. Chief Administrator Michael said Chevy has already handled “quite a bit of work in the zoning realm” and that giving her the official title will allow her to sign permits and reduce reliance on outside billing. Michael explained that some zoning work has been handled by a third party, Dave Job, and that going forward both Dave Job and Chevy Nave will be authorized to address zoning issues, “but the majority of the zoning matters will now go to Chevy.” The motion to appoint Nave passed by voice vote.

Haymaker Run interceptor easement ordinance: The council approved Ordinance No. 1102‑25 to authorize an easement related to the Haymaker Run interceptor rehabilitation project on municipal land (tax map number 49‑10‑00‑0‑128). Public comment during the meeting was limited to staff explanation; Chief Administrator Michael described the vote as “kind of just the formality to get everything in line, so that they can begin that project.” The ordinance was approved by voice vote.

Annual public‑works contracts: Council approved the award of contracts for various road materials and line painting for the Department of Public Works for the contract year running June 1, 2025, through May 31, 2026. Presenting the bids, Public Works staff Bill said some unit prices were stable while certain items — notably signs — rose substantially this year: “The signs really went crazy this year. … they grew some of those grew, half again.” The council approved the one‑year contract awards by voice vote; staff noted that multi‑year contracts were not pursued because commodity prices can change rapidly.

Other business and announcements: Chief Administrator Michael reported that the municipality will receive dividends from the MRM Trust — $77,000 for the workers’ compensation trust and $15,000 under the property and liability trust. Michael also reminded residents about a final curbside leaf collection (20‑bag limit per collection date; sign‑up deadline is the Thursday before each pickup), the annual Slam Fishing Derby for ages 15 and under, and a Red Cross blood drive scheduled at the Murrysville Community Center. The council confirmed the municipality office will be closed on Good Friday, April 18.
