The City of Franklin Beer Board voted Feb. 11 to recommend approval of Ordinance 2024‑52, an amendment to Franklin Municipal Code section 8‑209, to explicitly list manufacturing and distribution permits among the types of beer permits the board may issue. The recommendation will go to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen for final action.
City staff explained the change is a clarifying edit to make the code consistent: two other code sections (8‑201 and 8‑208) already grant the board authority to issue manufacturing and distribution permits, but 8‑209’s list of permit types omitted them. “So for clarification sake and just for continuity, we're asking to to amend the code to add manufacturing and distribution permits in that third section of the code,” staff said.
Board members asked whether the edit would forfeit any limitations; staff responded it would not, and that the board already has the authority under other sections. Alderman Barnhill moved to recommend the ordinance to the full Board of Mayor and Aldermen; the motion passed by roll call (Barnhill yes; Caesar yes; chair yes).
