Council notified of Sept. 21 Gran Fondo New York route passing through Murrysville; no road closures planned

Borough staff told council July 14 that the Gran Fondo New York (GFNY) bicycle race will pass through a short segment of Murrysville on Sunday, Sept. 21. Michael (Chief Administrator) said the route will come off the north side of Logan’s Ferry and use Saltsburg Road (Route 286) for a limited distance before continuing into neighboring municipalities.
Michael said GFNY provided a certificate of liability insurance and will pay for off‑duty police officers at key intersections (for example, Ashbaugh and Saltsburg Road) where volunteers and traffic control are needed; the borough expects no road closures and no municipal overtime cost. "They are paying for that cost. It's no cost to the municipality for the overtime for those officers," Michael said.
Staff said the race organization runs similar events nationwide and will staff intersections with volunteers; the borough encouraged residents to expect possible traffic delays on Saltsburg Road on race morning but emphasized roads will remain open for traffic flow.
