The Chula Vista Elementary School District Board of Education accepted an independent 07/11 committee report and adopted a resolution declaring the "Seniors on Broadway" parcel surplus to the district's educational needs on Aug. 13 and approved a purchase‑and‑sale agreement with the Metropolitan Area Advisory Committee on Anti‑Poverty of San Diego County (MAC).
Committee members reviewed deed restrictions, enrollment projections and facility needs across three public meetings in June and recommended surplus because current and projected enrollment can be accommodated by existing district campuses. Committee chair Perla Busamante (committee chair) presented the panel's findings to trustees.
Under the approved agreement, MAC offered $1,200,000 restricted for district facility use; staff said MAC is arranging refinancing and additional investor commitments to complete the transaction. The board asked staff to provide status updates and requested a progress report within six months. Staff and trustees noted the property has deed restrictions limiting rents and uses; district leaders said limits reduce marketability to private investors and that retaining the parcel without a buyer would provide little fiscal benefit.
The sale was approved 5–0, and trustees said future long‑term leases should include an educational purpose where appropriate.
