Franklin beer board approves beer permits for three community fundraisers

The City of Franklin Beer Board on Aug. 12 approved beer permits for three nonprofit fundraisers scheduled this fall, voting unanimously after staff said inspections were complete. WAVES Inc. will hold its Brews and Grooves fundraiser on Sept. 18 at Highwoods Park Place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Downtown Franklin Rotary Club's Hog Ball is set for Oct. 4 at DVA Hog Ball Eastern Flank Battlefield Park from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Rotary Franklin's annual golf tournament is scheduled for Oct. 13 at West Haven Golf Club from early morning through 6 p.m. Board staff told the board that applications and inspections for the three events were complete and recommended approval. The board chair asked whether servers held ABC certification for the events; applicants or their representatives confirmed that required certification and training were in place for staff and volunteers. The board approved each permit by roll call, with Alderman Barnhill, Alderman Caesar and the chair voting yes. WAVES Inc.'s managing agent, Evangelina Montelongo, told the board the Sept. 18 event is the nonprofit's annual fundraiser and will include music, food, drinks, an auction and an outdoor tented setup. Downtown Franklin Rotary Club member CJ Monti and volunteer Adam Caldwell described the Hog Ball as a community fundraiser that returns proceeds to local charities; they said this will be their fourth year running the event. Cliff Wilson, president of the Franklin Breakfast Rotary Club, said the golf tournament is the club's primary fundraiser; he told the board the club has run the event for years and will take age-appropriateness into account when military guests attend. The board recorded no conditions beyond the usual permit requirements and verification of server certification. No public comments were offered during the items.
