The City of Franklin Beer Board on Sept. 9 approved a one-day beer permit for Friends of Matt Brown d/b/a Heroes and Hot Rods, a veterans-focused event set for Sept. 18, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Bicentennial Park Pavilion. Staff told the board the application and inspections are complete and recommended approval.
The event coordinator, Madeline Brown, said the event will “be a celebration of veterans” and described onsite controls: attendees will be ID-checked at the gate, those who purchase drinks will receive wristbands, and organizers will have a catering vendor. “We're looking at around 200 to 250, we're hoping,” Brown said when asked about expected attendance. She also said the event will have three off-duty Franklin police officers on site and that restroom trailers were rented in addition to existing porta-potties.
Board members discussed logistics before voting. Alderman Barnhill asked about street closures and confirmed with staff that no street closure was planned and that the event would be contained within the park; Barnhill also moved to approve. The chair seconded. In a roll-call vote, Alderman Barnhill and the chair both voted yes; the motion passed and the permit was granted.
Discussion points recorded in the meeting included organizers' plan for wristbands and ID checks, the presence of off-duty officers, restroom provisions, a stated attendance estimate of about 200–250, and an intention to consider the event as potentially annual. The board's action was a formal approval; no additional direction or conditions were recorded in the transcript.
The permit authorizes alcohol service during the stated hours at the stated location; organizers and city staff will continue to coordinate site logistics with the parks department ahead of the event.
