District staff briefed the board on school safety work including an updated visitor management process using the Raptor system and an optional CPR training partnership called Project Baron. The Raptor update allows parents and visitors to pre‑register via QR codes, which generates a visitor QR badge that speeds campus sign‑in, staff said.
Several public speakers raised safety concerns: neighborhood residents urged reinstating or expanding campus crossing patrols for students walking to Hellkrest and other nearby schools; a parent speaker asked the district to prioritize funding for door hardware and other entry‑security upgrades at as many as 50 schools. A trustee noted recent shootings in the region and asked staff to accelerate security upgrades at campuses without completed door projects.
Trustees and staff also discussed a proposed state legislative change (described in the meeting as pending in the Legislature) that could affect who is authorized to pick up a child; the board asked legal counsel to review the potential consequences and to provide proactive guidance. One trustee asked about how the Raptor process would handle a visitor who attempts to remove a student without appearing on a parent contact list; staff said the district will review policy and practice with legal counsel and city partners.
Staff said they are coordinating with the city on communications and will continue to refine policies and technology to speed visitor processing while maintaining safeguards. Trustees asked for a follow‑up report on the status and prioritization of door/entry upgrades, crossing-patrol coverage and the strategy for vaccinating equipment and cameras on buses and campuses.
