Scranton council approves multiple fire-safety and emergency services grant submissions

The Scranton City Council voted to introduce and adopt several grant-related resolutions advancing fire prevention, training and emergency-services projects.
Council introduced item 5 c, a resolution ratifying and approving submission of a FEMA fiscal year 2024 Fire Prevention and Safety Grant application for up to $300,000 to support public education and risk mitigation projects. The introduction was moved and sent to committee. Separately, council adopted two state grant resolutions at final passage: item 7 d authorizing submission of a 2025 Emergency Service Training Center capital grant application for up to $100,000, and item 7 e authorizing submission of a 2025 Municipal Fire Department Capital Grant application for up to $100,000 for repairs to Engine 2's fire station.
As chairperson for the Committee on Public Safety recommended final passage, roll-call votes showed all present council members voting yes on the two state grant items. The FEMA item was introduced for committee consideration and will proceed through the normal review process.
Council members said the proposed grants would fund public education, training center capital improvements and station repairs; specific project scopes, if funded, will be subject to grant terms and subsequent implementation contracts. The actions do not by themselves obligate city funds beyond any local match required in a future award.
