The department said it mounted extra officers in key school areas during the first days of classes, implemented a no-left-turn plan at a problematic intersection and reported July traffic enforcement totals of 305 written citations, 192 warnings and 32 parking citations.
Gonzales said National Night Out and other community policing events had good turnout despite weather. The department also reported a 56% decrease in reported crime compared with the previous year, which Major Gonzales attributed to high visibility patrols.
Council members thanked the police for extra officers at Bob Graham Education Center and elsewhere and urged continued coordination with public‑works as construction projects—such as the 150th/Palmetto turn‑lane work—could overlap with school traffic. Gonzales said crews aimed for night work on the turn‑lane project to limit daytime impacts but would prepare for delays if day work was required.
