Planning commission appoints two commissioners to Virgin River riparian subcommittee

The Springdale Planning Commission on Aug. 20 appointed two commissioners to a subcommittee to study strategies for protecting and enhancing the Virgin River riparian zone. Commissioners discussed membership and the need to keep the subcommittee to two people so it would not constitute a quorum. Commissioner Kosh Bate and Commissioner Terry Kruschke were designated as the two-member subcommittee; planning staff (Nyle) said staff would reach out to both to arrange an initial meeting. The subcommittee’s stated purpose is to delve into the Virgin River management plan, learn about riparian protection strategies, and identify possible actions or recommendations for the full commission and town council. Staff reminded commissioners that any subcommittee of more than two commissioners would constitute a public meeting under state open-meeting rules; the commission confirmed the membership would be limited to two and asked staff to help schedule the initial meeting.
