State lawmakers deliver $1.6 million for turn lane and drainage projects in Miami Lakes

State lawmakers’ offices presented a $1.6 million check to Miami Lakes during the council meeting on Aug. 19, and council members said the funds will support two road and drainage projects. Representative Fabricio (District 110) and staff from Senator Avila’s office attended; Fabricio said the appropriation will fund a turn lane project at NW 150th Street/Palmetto Expressway and the Big Cypress drainage project to reduce flooding.
Fabricio told the council the money represents state tax dollars returned to the town through the legislative appropriations process and that he and Senator Avila worked together to secure funding. He also said his office is pursuing other tax-cut measures at the state level and noted constituent services available from his local legislative aides.
Mayor Dieguez and council members acknowledged the grant presentation and asked staff to keep them informed about project timelines and how the appropriation will integrate with the town’s ongoing capital program. The council did not take any additional formal action on the appropriation at the meeting.
