Cheltenham facilities report details roof work, stadium project and traffic-calming reviews

The Cheltenham School District facilities committee reported on June 10 that several capital and maintenance projects are underway or scheduled, including a partial roof replacement at Cheltenham High School, ongoing work on the stadium project and future projects planned for Glenside and Cedar Brook elementary schools.

Committee members said the Cheltenham High School partial roof replacement is "scheduled to begin later this month and go through Aug. 17," and that the work is intended to be completed before students return for the fall term. The committee also reported that the administration building needs targeted roof repairs, and that one building's fire panel and chiller systems are aging; a vendor advised that replacing the building-management system is more cost-effective than repairing outdated parts.

Why it matters: Planned and in-progress facilities work affects daily operations, safety and the district capital budget. Committee members said the projects are timed to limit disruption and to meet school-calendar deadlines.

Other items noted in the facilities report: Hirschberg was awarded a bid to replace two supply lines in the high school boiler room, a 40-foot scaffold will be needed for that work, and facilities staff set up roughly 3,000 chairs for graduation at Arcadia. Committee members said the stadium project has moved from planning into early work, and that the district revisited traffic-calming measures around elementary schools to determine where treatments will be placed.

The report said projects at Glenside and Cedar Brook are planned to start in 2026. The facilities committee will next meet August 5; the June 3 facilities meeting recording is available on the district website, the committee said.

No specific funding vote or change was taken by the board at the June 10 meeting; the facilities report was informational and will return to committee as projects progress.
