Council votes to support all nine League of Arizona Cities and Towns annual resolutions

Sahuarita staff on Aug. 20 briefed the council on nine proposed annual policy resolutions to be considered at the League of Arizona Cities and Towns conference. Staff said the town’s draft positions were: support for seven resolutions, neutral on one (special‑district governance reforms) and opposition to a resolution that would tighten municipal oversight of historic vacant or abandoned properties.
After discussion, Council Member Diane Priolo moved that the town support all nine League resolutions; the motion was seconded and carried. Staff had asked specifically for direction on the historic properties item, noting staff and a councilmember had a lengthy conversation about it. The council’s motion gives the mayor authority to cast the town’s vote at the League policy committee meeting held during the conference.
Staff provided a summary of the resolutions, which covered items including media budget adjustments, authorization for tax‑increment financing, candidate committee termination procedures for deceased candidates, TPT rate extensions to align with consolidated elections, annexation process streamlining, short‑term rental regulation authority, protection of the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS), governance of special districts and requirements for historic vacant or abandoned buildings. The council’s action was to direct the town’s delegate to support the slate at the League committee meeting.
