The joint operating committee for the Eastern Center for Arts and Technology reported at the Cheltenham board meeting that Eastern was awarded a Perkins grant of $368,648 for the 2025–26 school year and that the funds will support program equipment and purchases for allied health, construction technology, cosmetology, culinary arts, electrical technology, HVAC, networking and cybersecurity programs.
The committee also approved moving forward on a lease arrangement with the Upper Moreland School District for approximately 6,200 square feet at Upper Moreland High School. The lease is intended to relocate Eastern’s practical nursing program to Upper Moreland to free space on Eastern’s main campus for a new building‑trades program (addressing wait lists for HVAC and electrical programs). The board approved Breslin Architects to proceed with design and bid specifications for both the practical nursing relocation and building‑trades development.
Resilient (a contracted firm) was approved to design and manage replacement of one of Eastern’s boilers, the committee reported. Eastern also honored student achievements at its annual awards night and noted continuing outreach and partnership activity.
Ending: The Eastern Center’s joint operating committee scheduled a meeting for August 13 (via Zoom) and the written report and meeting link are available on Eastern’s website, the committee said.
