Board ratifies tentative agreements with teachers and classified employees; public hearings draw no speakers

The East Side Union High School District Board of Trustees held public hearings and then ratified tentative agreements reached with two bargaining units on Aug. 14.
After calling three times for public comment and receiving no speakers, the board moved to ratify the proposed tentative agreement with the Eastside Teachers Association (contract reopener for 2025–26). Trustees thanked the negotiating teams and ratified the agreement by a unanimous vote.
The board followed the same process for the tentative agreement with the California School Employees Association (CSEA) Chapter 187 covering July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2028. Again, no public testimony was received and the board voted 5–0 to approve the agreement.
Board members praised bargaining teams for finishing negotiations over the summer and noted that ratification allows the district to implement the agreements promptly. The superintendent and trustees expressed appreciation for both unions’ efforts during a challenging fiscal environment.
The public hearings were conducted under AB 1200 disclosure requirements and cited related Government Code sections on public notice and labor negotiations.
