The Brighton Central School District Board of Education on April 8 approved two administrator tenure recommendations, granting tenure to Allison Rio and noting that Ashley Edwards' recognition will occur at the district's June 1 meeting.
Board members moved and seconded the resolution and approved it by voice vote. The presenter outlined Rio’s academic and professional background, including a bachelor's degree in childhood special education and a master's in literacy from St. John Fisher, and a doctorate in teaching and curriculum from the University of Rochester. The presenter traced Rio's career from consultant and classroom roles in the Rochester City School District to French Road Elementary, where she served as literacy coach, assistant director of humanities, interim principal, principal and (since 2021) assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.
Board remarks praised Rio's leadership, mentorship of principals, focus on inclusive and equity-driven instruction and the results the district said have been achieved under her leadership. The board also announced Ashley Edwards will receive tenure recognition at the June 1 meeting because she was not present that evening to have family participate in the recognition.
The motion to approve the administrator tenure recommendations was moved by Esther, seconded by Sue and approved by voice vote.
